Invented his own card trick

Ben constantly spends hours thinking up methods of making his friends in awe of his power and wit. One such example is the language that he invented.

Ben's newly invented card trick is a recent addition to his vast armoury of such things. The card trick involves picking any card from a pack, and Ben can tell you what it is simply by looking at the back of it.

After claiming that he had special powers and had got on our nerves through his boasting, Russell and I, his friends, started trying to find out how he did this.

We tried all kinds of theories, including mirrors in his sleeves, marked notches on the edges of the cards and finally, in desperation we suggested he had highly polished finger nails.

None of our theories were right. Not ten minutes had passed, however, when we started to notice tiny patches of red ink of the red floral paterns on the back of each card.

When we pointed this out to Ben, and told him that we had worked out how his trick worked, he conceded defeat. He took us aside and explained to us the system that allowed him to tell us what card he was holding.
